💎 I am listing a large personal collection of estate & vintage rings this season. Click here to see ALL my current ring auctions » New pieces are added regularly — please check back.
Every so often a piece crosses the counter that carries a name as well as a look, and this one does both with real flair. It is a signed Joan Rivers Classics Collection cocktail ring — a bold, glittering two-tone confection of sterling silver and warm gold, built around a deep emerald-green stone framed in a lively field of clear pavé. Joan Rivers took genuine delight in glamour, and her jewelry was designed to be seen and enjoyed; this ring is very much in that generous, unapologetically festive spirit.
As a third-generation dealer in estate and vintage jewelry, I present every piece exactly as it is, photographed in plain light from every angle, and I will tell you plainly what I see — including a candid correction. In examining the interior of the shank closely, I find it clearly signed ‘Joan Rivers’ in the maker’s familiar script, together with a ‘925’ stamp that denotes sterling silver. This is therefore a designer-signed sterling silver ring with a gold (vermeil) finish — not solid karat gold, and I do not represent it as such. The green center and the sparkling surround are, in keeping with Joan Rivers’ costume tradition, beautifully executed simulated stones: a faceted emerald-green stone at the heart and a pavé of clear cubic-zirconia or crystal accents around it. I describe them honestly as simulated rather than promise a natural emerald or diamond I cannot verify. None of this diminishes the ring’s considerable charm; it simply tells you truthfully what it is.
And it is a handsome thing. The design is architectural and confident: a square, bezel-set emerald-green stone sits slightly proud at the center, its cool colour set against a densely pavé-set panel of small bright stones that catch and scatter the light with real vivacity. The gold-toned shank rises to meet this glittering face with gently scrolled, almost ribbon-like shoulders, giving the two-tone contrast — warm gold against white pavé — that was such a signature of the era’s better costume design. On the finger it reads as a proper cocktail ring: substantial, sparkling, and impossible to overlook.
The sterling body gives the piece a satisfying weight and quality that lifts it well above ordinary base-metal costume jewelry, and the Joan Rivers signature places it among the collectible designer names that a devoted following actively seeks. Her Classics Collection pieces have their own steady market, and the signed sterling examples in particular are the ones collectors tend to keep.
On condition I will be, as always, candid and fair. The ring shows honest light wear consistent with age and gentle use — a little softening to the gold vermeil in the usual high-touch places along the shank, and the ordinary fine surface marks of a piece that has been worn and enjoyed rather than shut away. The green center stone and the pavé read as bright and secure to the eye; as with everything I sell, I invite you to study the close-up photographs and judge for yourself, and to ask me anything before you decide. It measures to approximately a US size 6.5 on my sizer, with final sizing best confirmed by your own jeweller.
Signed designer costume jewelry of this quality — sterling, well-made, and carrying a name people recognise and collect — does not turn up endlessly. The good, cleanly-signed examples are steadily absorbed into collections and simply stop appearing. I mention this not to hurry you, only to be truthful about the nature of period designer pieces. If a little glamour with a famous name appeals to you, this cheerful, well-built Joan Rivers cocktail ring would be a pleasure to send along.
Offered with the transparency and care that have defined our family business for three generations: exactly as photographed, honestly described as signed Joan Rivers sterling (925) vermeil set with simulated stones, and priced accordingly.
